Christmas music is starting to fill the air as we pour into the department stores, searching for the best deals. I was shopping with my mom this past weekend and heard the song, "Oh there's no place like home for the holidays..." It's a beautiful song, with a wonderful sentiment. Home. Home is where we feel comfortable enough to kick off our shoes and let the hole in our sock show to everyone. Home is where we play games with our kid brother and reminisce about back in the day. Home is where there is a tasty meal made just by mom. Home is where we feel safe, loved and can always return to no matter what.
Our pets feel the same way. I love the moments when someone sends us an email or a text wanting to bring a puppy to their home. We can't wait to meet the family, learn about where they live and what they like to do for fun. It's exciting to know a pet is going to a happy, warm, and loving home.
This holiday season, think about what you can do for those pups without homes. Whether you purchase a new puppy, adopt a pet from a shelter, or take food to your local humane society, remember what it's like to go home.
A home at Christmas... a place to lay your head. Isn't that what Mary and Joseph were looking for? A safe place to give birth to the coming Messiah. God, robed in flesh, made His entry into this world as a King without a throne, a baby without a home. He came to show us the way, the way to our true home, Heaven. Oh there's no place like home...
