When I was little, I had a toy dog that had a surprise. Underneath, there was a piece of velcro and inside were puppies! The fun part was seeing how many would be in there and what colors they would be! Oh how fun it was! In fact, I think that retro toy is back on the shelves with a bit of an update (just in case you are wanting a Christmas gift).
We expected our litter from Hope & Duke on December 16. But on Monday, December 11, Shaun and I were out in the kennel making preparations and doing some cleaning when all of a sudden he said, "BABY"! He took off into the kennel and there was our first pup! Hope is a great mother and always does very well with her litters.
That morning, as we drank our coffee, he said, "I'm officially ready and ahead of time!". There are a few things we get ready for moms to deliver pups. All was in place and ready to go for when the puppies made their arrival. We just didn't know it would be so soon!
The fun with this litter is that Duke is a Champagne and Hope is a Silver. Because of their genetics we knew it would be a Charcoal and Silver litter. But how many? And of what color? Yet another "Puppy Surprise"!
The first was a charcoal. The second was a charcoal. After 12 hours of labor, we had 11 puppies - 4 Silver and 7 Charcoal. All adorable, healthy babies!
There was a bit of a surprise several thousand years ago. Mary received the news that she too was expecting, yet she was a virgin. But the best surprise was that she would give birth to not just any child, but the Messiah - the Savior of the world- Emmanuel, God with us! - Luke 2:11
